Micheal Phelps was born in Towson, Maryland in 1985. In 2014 he held 7 world records in 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, 400m IM, 4x100m freestyle relay, 4x200m freestyle relay, 4x100m Medley
relay and more. He competed in his first Olympics at age 15 in the year 2000 at the Sydney Olympics. He was the youngest American Olympian to compete in almost 70 years. He didn't win anything at those Olympics but he would soon hit the world with a storm. At age 15 at the FINA World Championships he broke his first world record for in 200m Butterfly making him the youngest male to break a swimming world record. He took part in the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Where he won 6 gold medals and 2 bronze medals. He was age 19 at the time. He continued his swimming career and competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics where he went on to win another 8 gold medals. And won one of the most talked about swimming races in history and bet Milorad Čacić in the 100m butterfly event by 0.01 seconds.
At the 2012 Olympic Phelps had set a goal to be the most decorated Olympian. He won 4 more gold medals at these Olympics and at this point his medal count had moved up to 22 and he became the Olympian with the most medal beating gymnast Larisa Latynina's record of 18. In 2016 he took part in his final Olympics after being rumoured to have retired in 2012. He became the first swimmer to get onto the American team 5 times. He went on to win his 19th Olympic gold medal in the 400m freestyle relay. Phelps again made history by winning gold in the 200m butterfly and by acting as the anchor for the male 4x200m butterfly race. By the end of the 2012 Olympics he had won 23 gold medals in total making him the most decorated Olympian of all time, broken 7 world records and 1 Olympic record, become the youngest person the break a world record and so made so many more achievements that make 100% worthy of the title 'Worlds Greatest Swimmer' and possibly even the world greatest athlete.
